A few weeks back I had the most wonderful opportunity to dine with the lovely ladies from Chez Lisgar.
If you haven’t heard, Chez Lisgar is the unique dining experience in the city, where roomies Nadya and Sarah host complete strangers (aka ME) in their condo for a gourmet dinner and all they ask in return is you supply the wine, beer or booze.
I was equally nervous and intrigued when I first connected with the girls but curiosity got the best of me and I decided to just go for it. And I am S O happy I did because it was one of the most interesting nights. To be candid, both Nadya and Sarah are funny as heck, twenty-somethings, who have embraced this opportunity with full bravado. There is no holding back once you walk in Chez Lisgar…you’re going to drink wine, discuss everything from US politics to Bumble and probably fall off your chair laughing (hello all the the wine) at some point.
We dined on delectable pesto risotto with a poached egg and cheese biscuits but what was the most surprising was the ease in conversation and the instant connection created by the idea of not knowing one another. While I have been trying to put it into words, I can say with all sincerity I had one of the most refreshing, candid and honest conversations I’ve had in a long time and I think it is in major part due to the fact that we were all meeting under the same pretence of unknown.
You really have no idea what to expect and that’s why I believe Chez Lisgar is so interesting. Beyond the delicious dishes provided, the ambiance and environment is incredibly intriguing; you’re taken out of your comfort zone and delivered into such a relaxed space, yet it’s oddly a world away from your typical Friday night.
If you have a chance to dine with the girls then I highly suggest you do (reservations can be made here). I am still dreaming about the buttery risotto and I have heard that each meal is different but equally brag-worthy. I’d dine with the Lisgar ladies whether they were making a gourmet feast or picking up McDonalds, it was just that fun, I cannot wait to go back!
