It’s another edition of Women Making Waves and I am happy to introduce, Laura DeSanctis.
Laura and I met irl after she first reached out to me over the ‘gram.
As a couple of ladies living in the city, we both know it’s nice to create a network to share success stories, pain points and brainstorm ways to support one another.
Laura is a not only a nutritionist that you’ll learn all about below, but she also developed an amazing collection of teas, Go With Your Guy Digestive Tea Cleanse. Her tea is designed to help aid in digestive distress and help promote and give the bowels a natural laxative effect, without increasing inflammation, which is in the case with some extreme skinny and detox teas (read: this ain’t your Kardashian Instagram Fit Tea Sh*t).
I have personally been drinking the tea at home and can say it is not only a great way to end my evening but it really promotes that natural effect for your body the next day. You can read more about the tea here and learn about Laura, herself below.
Tell us a bit about yourself!
About me – I am not your conventional nutritionist. I wasn’t born with a smoothie in my hand or grew up eating all organic. Due to my personal story and struggle with IBS and digestive issues, I decided to become a holistic nutritionist. I go against the grain when it comes to my approach and philosophy of food, nutrition, health and wellness. I don’t sugar coat things. I don’t pretend I know everything. I don’t judge what people eat or don’t eat, or what diet they follow. I try to help inform, educate and act as a resource. I’ve created tools like supplements, plans and even my signature digestive tea, to help people with digestive issues. One thing I always tell people is I tell you how it is. I’m all about real talk…no b.s.
What’s your zodiac sign?
What inspired you to start your business?
Struggle with digestive issues for years and not finding a solution. I spent so much time and money and was in pain for a very long time, trying to understand how to heal my body. I tried different medical and holistic modalities but nothing worked. So I took matters into my own hands and decided I would make it work. I would figure out a way to start to feel better again in my body. I took a chance on me, and trusted my gut.
What does a day in the life of YOU look like?
A day in life of Laura…every day is different. As a entrepreneur, I have lots of meetings, lots of calls and admin work. I ensure to respond to all my clients first and foremost and work on my projects for the week.
I live and die by my calendar, so everything related to my business is scheduled in my calendar. This helps keep me on track and organized. Some days I conduct one-on-one nutritional consultations, other days I am speaking at corporate wellness event or working on developing products to help support my digestive healing program.
What’s the hardest part of being a Boss Babe? The best part?
The hardest part of being a Boss Babe is the pressure. It’s all on you to succeed or fail. It’s also heard when there is no stability. Every day can be completely different. You may feel at times you always have to chase or follow-up with people for time, money, partnerships…etc.
The best part of being a Boss Babe is that it’s completely you. You are your brand. You get to be inspired and creative and run with your own ideas. You call all of the shots. Working in corporate before, I quickly learned that there is no room for creativitiy or to “step outside the box.” At times you would feel stifled. Not here. Not as an entrepreneur. You run with things. You call the shots. The fruits of your labour are directly a result of how hard you work and how hard you want it. To me, that is always motivating and inspiring.
What’s the biggest message you want to share through your platform?
The biggest message I want to share through my platform is that nutrition, health, wellness and diet mean different things to different people. There is no and I mean no one-size fits all approach. We need to be kind to our bodies instead of neglect it. We need to pay attention to what our body, our instincts are telling us, hence the name of my biz...Go With Your Gut.
We need to see and know our value. We need to know our worth and stop lying to ourselves. Stop putting things off. We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on designer purses and clothes, but won’t spend money and time on the food we eat. The food that nourishes us. Take action. Take back control and learn how to feel happy and healthy again.
Best piece of advice you can give up and coming boss babes?
Good things take time. As cliche as it sounds and as much as it kills me to hear this sometimes, as I struggle with patience in my business, good things take time.
Be consistent. Do the work. Be nice to everyone and things will happen for you. But you cannot rush the process.
Do you have a daily mantra or affirmation?
My daily mantra is that I am going to WIN!
How would this Boss Base describe herself?
I would best describe myself as someone who never gives up. Determined to win despite adversity. Determine to find a solution. Determined to make things work. I am someone that works hard, stays in my lane and is genuinely happy for others successes. I try to surround myself by people who work hard and who have success and to think in a growth mindset. I am committed to what I do and I believe and practice what I preach. I am real, raw, authentic…and happy to have the opportunity to help women every day feel better about their bodies.
