Guys. You asked. I delivered.
I recently spent the weekend on the Egg Fast. For those who have no idea what I’m talking about you can read about it here.
Essentially you consume an egg/fat-based diet for 3 to 5 days to kickstart your body in to fat-burning mode.
This post really sums up the function of the fast quite well and a few of you sent it over to me and asked me my thoughts.
My girlfriends recently tested out the fast and had great results so I figured what better way to give you all feedback than to try it myself.
I did the fast for 3 days and logged each day for your reading pleasure below.
*Note that I did not drink diet soda for the three days but you’re allowed to do so if you want to.
**I also want to highlight that I am not a doctor, medical professional or nutritionist. I am simply testing out a fast fad and providing my honest feedback and results.
Let me know if you’re interested in trying it out too and what your results are – I am SO excited to hear.
Ok, I am so poorly planned that last night I just hard-boiled a dozen eggs.
Talk about bad prep work LOL.
There are tons of meals and egg fast friendly foods you can make but leave it to me to just start day one with a bundle of boring boiled eggs.
I had four hard-boiled eggs and was sick of them by lunch. I choked down one more as a snack and then I had to stop.
Luckily, I had another dozen eggs so I scrambled three eggs for dinner with butter, pepper and garlic powder.
Needless to say, day one was a struggle. I wasn’t hungry which was great but I was ill-prepared and it made the process really unappetizing.
I also don’t eat cheese so I didn’t incorporate any of that on day one but I think I will have to eat it on day two and three because I need some variety with my fats and meals here.
I also had two black coffees which helped to curb the headache I got throughout the day and I will admit that I felt a bit low energy by the mid afternoon but my second coffee around 6:30 PM really helped.
My girlfriend hosted a delicious dinner which I attended so that was hard to get through.
Watching everyone enjoy this amazing meal and cocktails while I ate nothing and drank water was tough but I got used to it and was still able to enjoy myself thanks to the wonderful company.
We went out after and I lasted til about midnight which I am pretty impressed with myself and actually had such a great time!
I woke up so early today and feel fine.
You are supposed to consume your first egg in the first 30 minutes of waking up but obviously I did it after an hour because I walked Choco, texted my girlfriends and didn’t get out of bed.
The big thing they say is that you should eat eggs even if you’re not hungry.
I didn’t wake up feeling hungry so after an hour I ate two hard-boiled eggs (I have to get rid of these things LOL) and had a glass of water and a cup of coffee.
I think I’m going to try and make this for lunch and switch things up a bit.
UPDATE: I did make this (pictured above) and it was actually delicious. I highly recommend that you try this on the diet.
It kept me full and had more flavor than just stupid, plain hard-boiled eggs.
I’ll have to take a lactose pill and based on what peeps said about the fast, I am pretty positive that between coffee, eggs and not processing dairy I’m going to sh*t my pants one way or another HA.
Sorry for over-sharing but want to be honest if you’re going to give this a try.
I felt good today and I actually worked out for an hour which only felt slightly harder than normal, but I could not consume the same number of eggs as I did yesterday.
*At this point I really do not like eggs.
But tomorrow is a new day and THE LAST DAY so that is super exciting!
“Well, I don’t eat anything and when I feel like I’m about to faint I eat a cube of cheese.”
This was 100% my first thought waking up this morning.
Again, no I’m not hungry but I feel sad with the selection of what I have to eat.
I did enjoy watching my girlfriend eat fresh pizza and rosé last night while I ate nothing and drank water (hmm sarcasm? the fast makes me MEAN).
Night Two was definitely harder than Night One probably because I was in the thick of it at that halfway point.
This morning I made egg fast-friendly deviled eggs – I made four and only used two tbsp of mayonnaise and opted for a few ounces of cheese to balance my egg intake. I literally couldn’t even finish four eggs.
For breakfast, I ate two which is technically fine but I am surprisingly starting to get sick of eggs which I really didn’t anticipate happening because I love eggs.
I will say my energy level is up and I feel very clear headed today. I also slept really well and despite eating cheese my stomach actually feels pretty good.
So, I finished the other two deviled eggs through out the day and a bit of cheese. Had two coffees and then three scrambled eggs for dinner with some more cheese.
I am so not interested in eggs or cheese at this point and I’m pretty excited for tomorrow to come, though I have no idea what to eat.
Does anyone else feel like they could play a drinking game with how many times I mention eggs?
All my meals are done, I feel full, my stomach feels good and my head is clear. I’ve been insanely productive and managed two nights of social activity where others were eating and drinking and I wasn’t able to.
While I cannot wait to go to bed and wake up tomorrow to have one of my smoothies, I am very much impressed with this fast.
I definitely think this is a good approach to kickstarting a new dietary regime or when you’re looking to shock your body.
Beyond having a few days off wine and refined sugars and carbs, I definitely believe that there is something to be valued in how I had headaches on the first day to feeling amazingly energetic on the last day.
I did not lose like 10 lbs or a huge amount as people claimed but I lost about 3 pounds and think this would be helpful to people looking to lose those last few lbs that can be frustrating.
I liked that I didn’t feel hungry but will say that eating just eggs for the three days would’ve never worked for me.
I know some people who did that and I just know I would have been miserable, so having a few recipe options was nice for me.
Would I do it again? Yes absolutely. Though I’m curious of the what now? i.e. how I should eat these next few weeks or if I can just go back to my normal eating habits.
These three days actually felt more difficult than the 12 days on the Wild Rose D-Tox because what I’m allowed to eat is so limited but it was a short period of time to feel more alert and energized so there is huge value in that to me.
So let me know…after reading this, would you try the Egg Fast? And do you think you could do five days?
